I think I have asked every one about what books they like and which ones I am going to read.... as soon as I PAY for a library card because I'm "outside city limits and I don't' pay THAT tax"
blah blah blah.
Anywasy.
So, I am going to ask that every one list their very favorite books and tell me which ones I MUST read. I basically only have children's books that are too elementary. I was reading them happily until I just got mad at the ridiculous simplicity of the thing.
So la de da and list me some books!!
p.s. Anna, you make me want to be a book worm. :-)

Well, I already recommended quite a few books to you, but I can happily recommend more!
lol thanks Beth! Yes I still have that email.... me thinks. ;-)
if you haven't read "blue like jazz" then read that first because that is the cult classic for our generation. then read everything else by donald miller.
i could tell you a lot of crazy stuff to read but i'm not sure if you'd like it. my favorite authors are john steinbeck, dave eggers, kurt vonnegut, franz kafka.
and i know exactly what book i'm getting you for christmas so i can't tell you to read that one.
if you read blue like jazz and like it then i will tell you a thousand other books about christianity to read.
Blue like Jazz sounds interesting. Thanks!
I think I already gave you a few but here's some more:
Howl's moving castle, Diane Wynne Jones
Artemis Fowl, Eoin Colfer (the bodyguard's name is Butler!!!)
The Amulet of Samarkand, Jonathan Stroud
Sabriel, Garth Nix
Beauty, Robin Mckinley
and that's all my brain's coming up with right now.
Artemis Fowl is part of a series right? Because I ran across one at our library but it wasn't the first one. ;)
ewww...steinbeck??? that's just waaaay wrong sam, but Kafka is pretty awesome so I'll forgive you ha-ha. Lindy, the Metamorphosis by Kafka looks pretty good as far as I've gotten so if you like somewhat short fiction you should read that.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a must-read.
Of course Nicholas Nickelby (the book is about fifty times better than the movie!!!)
Don Quixote is hilarious so far - it's totally not what you would expect it to be! So when I finish that I'll let you know if it's still really really good.
Here are some of my favorites:
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Leave it to Psmith (and anything else by P.G. Wodehouse!)
Mere Christianity
Around the World in 80 Days
Pride and Prejudice
So these lists should keep you going for quite a while!
Lol, I was at our library a couple weeks ago going through the Junior Fiction section - and I'm like "oh my gosh I looove that book! That one was sooo good! Oh I should read that again!" and these people are staring at me like 'shouldn't you be in a different section looking less excited?' it was fun. sometimes I just love being a kid inside so much that it kind of spills out!
I thought of some more....
The Westing Game, Ellen Raskin
any of the redwall books, Brian Jacques
The chronicles of Narnia, C.S.Lewis
The thief, Megan whalen turner (READ THIS! READ THIS!)
sheesh, here everybody is recommending all these nice long educated books and I'm recommending all my favorite children's books and fantasy. who cares if they're children's books, they're a lot of fun!!!!
yep! artemis fowl is a series. It has I think five books in it so far. but I can't for the life of me remember what the first one's called. the third one is the eternity code, the second is the Artic Incident, but the first.....who knows.
I think maybe I saw the third one...
Okay okay, so one of my fave kid books is From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and also A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver from the same author, or rather autheress. why are girl authors called autheresses? I know you loved these too Anna so that ought to make you happy. But you got me hooked on the long edumacated ones so don't try to blame me!
Oh btw Lauren's gonna read Nicholas Nickleby!
then the Count of Monte Cristo, then the Scarlet Pimpernel, then Around the World in 80 Days, then Pride and Prejudice, then Don Quixote, then Little Women.
After that we'll get her started on P.G. Wodehouse, oh yeah! isn't this wondermajigous? I like that word. It sounds like something out of Jabberwocky, but not quite as mome rath-ish.
Thank you thank you!!! I have a few on the top of my list. I am reading The adventures of Tom Sayer right now which is SO cute. Read it?
Oh and I agree! Educational books are better than I ever think they will be, but I ALWAYS got for the kid/fantasy books! hehehehe *high fives Anna*
No, but I've read the Adventure of Huckleberry Finn.
Well, most of it anyway...
Okay, so I got about half-way through it twice. Unfortunatly it was the first half both times.
:)
