square one

we are an official community. you all should have received invitations to have posting access or something like that.
like the description says, the only rule is 'be nice and be open-minded.'
no attacks, no long arguments.
this community is open for the world to see, it isn't our own little roundtable discussion. invite people. it's painfully uncool to be intellectuals.

good ideas for the community-
-i would say it would be better to have shorter and more provocative posts rather than plop all your thoughts down on the table right away.
-try to shy away from denominational differences like baptism or (yes) pre-ordination. they get too ugly too fast and can be more of a hindrance than a help.
-whenever you can, if you quote a bible verse, try to give where it came from. i am horrible about this, but it would be nice for anyone who wants to to look up the context.

any other good rules of thumb? they're more of guidelines than actual rules, really. does anyone have a good bible verse that captures the theme of the community?

how about 1 Peter 3:15 "...always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, that those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame"

i like that "gentleness and respect" part. that's important. and it's a good mission to strive to have a good conscience and good conduct in Christ. and be able to give the reasons why we believe what we believe.

Oh, I like that verse. There's also Acts 17:11 (polly just the last part) "They received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so."

But... I think the 1 Peter one is better for this.
