Time to get started...

I never knew how much I wanted this day until now that it's here! We are really ready to start supporting a native missionary!!!!!!!!

Aletheia I know you weren't here when we started this discussion...let me see if I can find the original post...*digs through archives* aha! here it it! ye utuvienyes! okaaay...sorry.

http://inthevillagesquare.blogspot.com/2007/01/how-can-they-hear-without-someone.html

read this and then read the rest of the post. If you're interested...comment!!! that would be really cool.

So Eowyn has said to go ahead and start without her until she makes her final decision. There's me, Em, Sam, and Anna for sure. I haven't heard back yet from the other girl I told about it, Eowyn is tentative, and Aletheia you are more than welcome to join if you want to! But right now it's four for sure, at $30 per month that's $7.50 a month each until we get more people. Is that all right with everyone?

If it is (and please post ASAP to let us know) then I guess what we decided is to use PayPal to send all the money to one person each month (I'm willing to do it if everyone likes that; I think that was the general consensus last time), who will send it to GFA. I think that our first payment would be at the beginning of the month (not totally clear on that) which leaves us with one more thing: Do we want to just pick a missionary online, or do we want to get together and choose one together? I'm open, but it would probably take a lot longer to get all of us together to do that. I think it doesn't really matter who we are sponsoring...but like I said i'm open.

Oh one last thing - male or female missionary? We can do either!

Pleeeaaase comment as soon as you read this; I am so excited to finally do this!!!

oh yes, I can remember if this was in the original post; probably, but to learn even more go to GFA's website, www.gfa.org and click on "sponsor." Then you can learn more about native missionaries and also look at ones to sponsor.

ready set go! i'm ready.

and trust me, we'd better do a male missionary. female missionaries are sticky subjects with at least two sets of parents involved. ;-)

Wow you guys! I never even thought about what it would be like for a Hindu or a Bhuddist to come and start trying to convert us! And that's what it must be like for western people to go and start trying to convert people in India or somewhere? You're right I would so not go for it if I was one of them! So yeah I'd love to help too! Just two things I wonder: Are we sure that they don't still have some Hindu or other beliefs mixed in? Like things that actually make a huge difference? I don't want to get mixed up in the five points of of Calvinism or anything; just make sure that the people they send really are Christians. And the other thing is are we sure that GFA is a responsible place to send our donations? I've never heard of them. Anyway yeah I think it's such a great idea Verya!!

Ok, never thought about that with female missionaries...so yeah a male is fine. At this point shall we just say pick one, any one, from GFA's website?

And that is a GREAT question Aletheia...lol we had a big discussion about this before, but it's a good thing to be concerned about. I can assure you that they have completely rejected Hinduism, Bhuddism, and all the other -ism's...it's real Christianity. Trust me, these people want Jesus and Jesus alone; they are sick of false gods.

Another thing I can tell you about GFA is that 100% of our money goes to the field - they operate solely on donations and don't take out any of our money for anything.

I would highly recommend that you go to their website and at the bottom left of their home page you can read their free quarterly magazine online (called SEND!). This will tell you a lot more about what the missionaries actually DO. They have their current one there and an archive of all their past ones.

Go to gfa.org and click on About Us. That page has several links that will answer all your questions (and more) much better than I could myself.

If you read that stuff and decide you want to do it...that's awesome!!! comment when you make a decision and then we'll pick our missionary. Oh, and do you have PayPal? If you want to join, we all thought paypal was the best way to get the money to one person.

Thanks a bunch! I'll go check out their website. I believe my parents have PayPal so that should be AOK.

OK so I checked out the site. Where did you hear about GFA Verya?
(Sorry that I don't have any commas. The comma key on my keyboard doesn't work unless I sit here and pound on it for awhile. I hope it's not too confusing!)

Hmmm...I think I first saw them at a homeschool conference or at Creation, and their booth caught my eye since I wanted to go to India and they are all about India, ha-ha. I got their book Revolution in World Missions (which is free) and signed up for SEND!. That was a couple years ago now...

So what do you think?! You want to do it?

Aletheia said...

OK sounds like they're a pretty legit organization! :D
Count me in.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok, I'm really really really really excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, so, is everyone cool with just picking a male missionary from their website? Is that good?
