so while we're on this politics binge,
what do you guys think about free trade?
a little background, basically, we have given trillions of dollars in aid to africa--and every year africa (all together, though it's really individually) pays us more in debt money and interest than we pay them in new aid.
so people say, this makes it impossible for africa to ever overcome its deficit, especially because of its other problems.
so there are people (i'd consider myself loosely among them) who believe that we should be more lenient in forgiving africa's debt to us....but that's going to hurt our economy, which isn't exactly busting through the roof. but relatively speaking, is purty doggone good.
thoughts?
is it our job as a nation to help others like that?
is our economy more important than theirs? why?

well I don't know a word about this subject.
But it seems to me that just forgiving the debts won't really help Africa in the long run- they'll just fall back into debt again. It seems like the solution has to be somewhere totally else, like helping them establish more exports or something.
yes--that would be the longterm solution to fix "africa." but can we help more? every bit of grace we give towards their debt can go straight to fighting aids and malaria and eradicating genocide, right?
so it isn't the cure-all, no. but it could sure help.
